Access and login

How sign-in works, why membership of the configurator group is required, and how sessions expire.

eCEBS does not maintain its own user directory. You sign in with the DHIS2 credentials you already have, and eCEBS asks DHIS2 who you are.

Signing in

Open the portal and choose Sign in. Enter your DHIS2 username and password. On success you land on the portal overview; from then on the session travels with you and you will not be asked again until it expires.

Why you might be refused

Valid DHIS2 credentials are not sufficient on their own. Your DHIS2 account must also belong to the configurator user group. Anyone outside that group is refused entry and no session is created — there is no partial or read-only fallback.

Fail-closed by design

If the group membership cannot be confirmed — for example because DHIS2 is unreachable — access is refused rather than granted. A surveillance configuration surface is not somewhere to be optimistic.

If you are refused and believe you should have access, ask a DHIS2 administrator to confirm your group membership. Changing your own password does not help; the check is on the group, not the credentials.

How long a session lasts

A session lasts eight hours from the moment you sign in, and that limit is absolute. It is not extended by activity, so a long working day will require signing in again partway through. When the session ends you are returned to the sign-in page.

Choosing Log out from the account menu ends the session immediately.

What the browser stores

The session is held in a cookie the browser cannot read from JavaScript. Requests to the backend are made through the application's own server, which attaches the credentials on your behalf — the browser never holds a backend secret, and no API key is ever shipped to the page.

A practical consequence: signing out in one tab is noticed by the others within about a minute, and any portal tab still open will return to the sign-in page.

Language and theme

Language (English, Français, Kinyarwanda) and light or dark appearance are chosen from the controls in the header, and both persist across sessions. They are presentation only and change nothing about your permissions.
